Steps in the Health Impact Assessment Process

Health impact assessment follows a structured process. There are five distinct steps in health impact assessment:

Screening

Scoping

Identification & Assessment of Potential Health Impacts

Decision Making and Formulating Recommendations

Evaluation and Monitoring

Manuals and guidelines for HIA will often break these steps up further or use different terms, for example the identification and assessment step is sometimes be referred to as profiling and mapping. See the section on tools for HIA for further information.
